Almost half of Kalos TV's recent reviews are negative. In our tally of its 100 most recent US App Store reviews (26 Sep 2026), 49 were 1–2★. The main themes were price (25), charges or cancellation (24) and ads (13). One reviewer says a VIP member was still asked for a separate weekly subscription after 5–7 episodes, and some users object to AI-made dramas.

DramaBox's complaint themes are similar in kind: weekly renewals, charges after cancelling and long interactive ads, according to the store reviews in our fact base. The difference is scale and averages: DramaBox's 4.6★ on Google Play comes from millions of reviews, Kalos TV's 4.25★ from tens of thousands.

DramaBox is published by STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. in Singapore, a subsidiary of Beijing Dianzhong Technology, founded in 2011. Kalos TV is sold on the App Store by Storyverse Co., Limited; its Google Play developer name is "Kalos_ShortTV," with a Hung Hom, Kowloon address and a Macau phone number. DramaBox vs Kalos TV price: which is cheaper?

Kalos TV has cheaper entry points; DramaBox has the simpler price list. Kalos TV's US App Store shows "Standard Gear" coin packs at $6.99, $8.99, $9.99, $14.99 and $24.99, a "Coin Package Week" at $14.99, a "Coin Package Month" at $29.99 and a "vip free week" at $19.99 or $24.99. DramaBox's list shows "Membership" items at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 and "Special offer" coin packs at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99.

Apple does not print billing periods, so the item names are the only evidence. Business Insider (Jan 2026) says DramaBox subscriptions are "usually $20 a week." Kalos TV reviewers quote "$26 a week" and "$399 a year for ad free," both user-reported and unverified.

How much does one Kalos TV episode cost?

About $2 per episode, if the user reports are right. One Kalos TV reviewer (30 Aug 2026) reported 145 coins per episode and that $30 buys 2,100 coins. That works out to 70 coins per dollar and roughly $2.07 per locked episode — a TopDrama.app calculation from unverified user figures. How do both apps charge you?

DramaBox uses three routes; Kalos TV layers four. DramaBox offers free episodes, then coins, rewarded ads and a membership; its developer says in App Store replies that it recommends "the subscription rather than coins" because a subscription "will unlock all dramas." Kalos TV adds coin subscriptions (weekly and monthly) on top of one-time coins and a VIP pass, which is where user confusion appears.

Which app has better viewing features?

Kalos TV wins on playback control. Its store description offers playback speed from 0.75× to 2×, useful for skimming slow scenes or following dialogue in a second language. Our DramaBox sources document playlists and HD streaming, but no speed control.

Kalos TV is a smaller catalog built around exclusive originals; DramaBox is a high-volume mix. Kalos TV's listing names urban romance, teen idols, historical fantasy and werewolf stories. DramaBox combines translated Chinese productions, US originals from its Los Angeles studio (60+ titles in 2025, The Ankler) and AI-made dramas, and cites 2,000+ series in its company material (Oct 2024).

Does either app use AI-generated dramas?

DramaBox does so openly: Dianzhong released 1,287 AI short dramas in May 2026 and backs a US$150M overseas creator fund. Kalos TV has no stated AI policy in our sources, but some of its recent reviewers complain about AI-made dramas.
