How We Rate Short Drama Apps: Our 2026 Methodology
TopDrama.app scores every short drama app from 0 to 10 on six weighted criteria: catalog (25%), app quality and ratings (20%), free viewing (15%), pricing transparency (15%), trust and stability (15%), and platforms and languages (10%). Inputs are dated store data, company disclosures and analyst reports.
The six criteria
| Criterion | Weight | What we measure | Main data sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catalog & content | 25% | Size, genre breadth, content sources (translated, originals, AI), update frequency | Company claims, store "what's new", press |
| App quality & ratings | 20% | Star average weighted by rating volume, release cadence, stability complaints | App Store / Google Play snapshot |
| Free viewing | 15% | Free episodes, rewarded ads, check-in coins, daily caps | Store listings, developer replies, user reports |
| Pricing transparency | 15% | Clear billing periods, published prices, weekly vs annual options, cancellation friction | IAP lists, checkout copy, complaints |
| Trust & stability | 15% | Disclosed operator, profitability and scale, privacy label, partnerships | Store listings, MPA, Sensor Tower, press releases |
| Platforms & languages | 10% | iOS, Android, web, TV, offline; number of app languages | Store listings, official sites |
What the scores mean
- 9.0–10 Excellent — recommended for most viewers.
- 8.0–8.9 Great — strong for a specific need.
- 7.0–7.9 Good — usable with caveats (price, catalog, trust gaps).
- Below 7 — limited data or significant risks; second-app use only.
Why DramaBox is #1
DramaBox scores 9.8 because it is top-tier on every criterion: tied #1 revenue (~$140M, Q1 2026), $10M 2024 net profit, 4.8★ from 861K App Store ratings, 16 languages, iPhone/Android/web and three content pipelines. It loses points only on pricing transparency (billing periods and annual price are not published in the store list). See the DramaBox review.
Limits of our method
We do not have access to private revenue data, and prices vary by country, promotion and billing channel. Where data is missing we say so. Editorial scores are opinions based on published evidence, not guarantees; partner status does not change scores.
Update schedule
Store snapshot: monthly (last: 26 September 2026). Rankings: after each major data release (Sensor Tower, Omdia, MPA) or material app change.
