DramaBox's ratings base is 4.9 times larger on iOS and about 7.2 times larger on Google Play (TopDrama.app calculation). A 0.1-star iOS lead on a smaller base is a real but modest win for DramaWave; an earlier research file recorded DramaWave at 4.7★ on Google Play, so its Android score has slipped since.

DramaBox holds about 83% of the two apps' combined App Store ratings. Our sources hold no Q1 2026 revenue figure for DramaWave; one research file reports DramaWave revenue up 28 times year on year, but that claim is unverified and has no base figure.

DramaWave's documented story is download growth. Sensor Tower data cited in our research shows DramaWave downloads growing more than tenfold quarter on quarter in Q1 2025, reaching about 53M cumulative downloads by April 2025. Only DramaBox has a published profit: US$10M on US$323M revenue in 2024 (Media Partners Asia, Sept 2025). Our sources contain no profit figure for DramaWave or its publisher.

DramaBox vs DramaWave price: which is cheaper?

They cost the same week to week. DramaWave's US App Store list shows a weekly subscription at $19.99. DramaBox's US list shows "Membership" items at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 and coin "Special offers" at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99; Business Insider (Jan 2026) says DramaBox is "usually $20 a week." Neither app's main subscription has an official annual price in our sources.

DramaBox's App Store copy promises HD streaming and playlists; offline downloads are not documented in any official DramaBox source.

DramaBox mixes translated, US-made and AI dramas; DramaWave leans on a very large dubbed and localized library. DramaBox's catalog combines Chinese productions (95% of 2,000+ titles, a company claim), 60+ Los Angeles originals in 2025 (The Ankler) and locally adapted Latin American titles. DramaWave claims 30,000+ dramas, an unverified marketing figure, and uses AI localization to serve its 24 languages.

Does either app use AI?

Both do, in different ways. DramaBox's parent Dianzhong released 1,287 AI short dramas in May 2026 and runs a US$150M overseas creator fund; DramaWave uses AI to localize titles, per our research.
