StarShort is sold by Smile Lives Limited, and no parent company is named in our sources. The Terms of Service domain, starshort.online, shows a Chinese-language page about mini-programs, not a consumer help center. Compare that with DramaBox: STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. in Singapore, owned by Beijing Dianzhong Technology (founded 2011), with a published support email (feedback@dramabox.com) and a Singapore office address.

It is on both stores, it has 1M+ Google Play installs and its iOS age rating is 12+. The warning signs are real too: a Gmail support contact, a ToS domain that is not a help page, no updates since May 2026, and 35 of 38 recent reviews at 1–2★.

The most serious complaint is billing. Eleven recent reviewers said they found no way to cancel. Some reviews also mention buying "on Facebook" or "on this website". Purchases made outside Apple or Google do not appear in store subscription settings, and that could explain much of the cancellation trouble. No. StarShort has not been updated on either store since May 2026. The iOS version 2.43.0 is dated 18 May 2026, which is 131 days before our 26 Sep 2026 snapshot, and Google Play was last updated on 15 May 2026. A long gap does not mean the app will close, but it does mean bugs such as the stuttering reviewers describe may not be fixed soon.
